About North Cyprus · Health

Hospitals and health services in North Cyprus

As of 24 October 2026, the TRNC Ministry of Health lists six hospitals under its authority and links to health centres run by its Primary Health Services Department in the Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt and İskele regions. This page gives that directory as the ministry publishes it, the laws on private health institutions, medical records and assisted reproduction as they appear in the TRNC legislation database, and what official sources say about complaints and fees. No official TRNC register of private hospitals could be found; private hospitals are named only as a UK government list, which says it is not exhaustive, gives them. The page is informational, not medical advice.

Checked 27 October 2026 against the sources named in the text and listed below. Positions of parties are attributed to them.

The Sağlık Hizmetleri Dairesi (Kuruluş, Görev ve Çalışma Esasları) Yasası, Law 60/2026, adopted by the TRNC Assembly of the Republic on 29 June 2026, sets up a Health Services Department whose duties include 112 emergency and ambulance services, licensing and inspecting private health institutions and regulating health tourism.

Emergency numbers, the duty-pharmacy rota and a short hospital list are on Practical information; this page goes into more detail. It is informational only and is not medical advice.

Health centres: Lefkoşa, Girne and Güzelyurt regions

The ministry's hospitals page links to the Primary Health Services Department list of health centres, which is split into five regional pages: Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt and İskele. The names below are given exactly as the Lefkoşa, Girne and Güzelyurt pages write them; some are called sağlık merkezi (health centre), some sağlık ocağı (health post) and some poliklinik.

The regional pages also list the doctors, dentists and psychologists at each centre and the weekdays they attend. This page does not reproduce those names or schedules; check the regional page or call the centre before visiting. A regional heading reflects the department's grouping and may not match the administrative district; districts are shown on Districts and towns.

Private hospitals and clinics: licensing framework and the UK government list

As checked on 24 October 2026, no official public register of licensed private hospitals, clinics or practices could be opened. The Ministry of Health lists laws on its legislation page, but its regulations page and decisions page showed no entries, and the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (KTTB) site publishes no register of institutions. Ask the ministry to confirm whether a facility is licensed.

According to the Private Hospital, Private Specialty Hospital, Private Clinic, Private Dispensary and Private Practice (Inspection) Law, Law 37/2012, no person or company may open or operate any of these without the permits the law requires, and each may work only in the specialties it states. The law requires an inspection team to inspect private institutions at least every six months and gives a Private Health Services Board the power to warn, close temporarily or close indefinitely. Law 60/2026 gives licensing and inspection of these institutions to the Health Services Department.

As of 25 October 2026, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) list of hospitals in Cyprus (north), updated 24 June 2026, classes seven facilities as private; they are listed below with the names and towns exactly as the list gives them. The FCDO states that the list is provided for information only, is not exhaustive, may change at any time, and that it does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is a UK government list, not a TRNC licence register, and inclusion does not confirm a current licence.

Cosmetic, hair-transplant and dental procedures: who may perform them

This page does not list or recommend any clinic, salon or practitioner. For cosmetic, hair-transplant and dental treatment, the sources below show how to check who is allowed to perform a procedure. Facilities, prices and results vary by provider, so ask a qualified doctor about your own case.

As checked on 27 October 2026, the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association (KTTB) states on a page dated 30 October 2023 that procedures such as fillers, Botox, mesotherapy, thread lifts, hair transplantation, gold needle therapy and focused ultrasound (HIFU) are medical treatments that, under its law, only doctors may perform.

  • Statement

KTTB: apply only to doctors for aesthetic procedures

The association's board says these procedures can cause complications that need medical intervention and that it received complaints about non-doctors performing them in northern Cyprus. It advises seeking medical, surgical and cosmetic procedures only from doctors. The statement is dated 30 October 2023.

Patients' rights, complaints and medical records

No law with patients' rights in its title appears in the TRNC legislation database as checked on 24 October 2026; the KTTB publishes a draft patients' rights bill on a page dated 25 February 2019. Rules on confidentiality and information are set out in the Medical Ethics Regulation (2005), made under the Medical Association Law, which states that keeping patients' secrets is a basic rule of the profession and lists when information may be disclosed.

Complaints about a doctor's professional conduct go to the KTTB. According to its disciplinary process page, the association's board opens an inquiry on a written or oral complaint and can refer the case to its Honour Board; a second KTTB page describes the same steps. The Ministry of Health contact page states that petitions are to be submitted in person to the ministry's archive unit.

On records, the regulation on patient records in private institutions (2018) requires a file for every patient, kept for at least ten years, and the Personal Data Protection Law, Law 89/2007, classes health data as sensitive data.

  • Confidentiality

When patient information may be disclosed

The Medical Ethics Regulation states that patient information may be disclosed with the patient's consent, when a court requires it, where keeping it secret would seriously harm a third person, or where the law requires it, such as reporting infectious diseases.

    Source: mevzuat.mahkemeler.net

  • Information

    Right to be informed

The same regulation has a section on the patient's right to be informed, setting out how doctors should tell patients about the course of their illness.

  • Complaint

    Complaint to the KTTB

  • Appeal

    Objection and court review

According to the KTTB, those concerned may object to the Honour Board within 10 days against a decision not to prosecute, and members penalised beyond a warning or reprimand may apply to the Supreme Court.

  • Records

Documents free of charge on request

Law 89/2007 treats health data as sensitive, lets health professionals bound by confidentiality process it, allows it to pass to third parties only with the person's consent, gives everyone the right to know whether their data are processed, and sends complaints to the Personal Data Protection Board.

Fees and health insurance for residents and visitors

The Health Institutions Fee Scale Regulation (2011), made under the law on inpatient treatment institutions, sets the fees charged at public health institutions and divides patients into three categories: full fee, reduced fee and free. It has been amended many times; the latest amendment found in the legislation database was published on 17 September 2026 (A.E. 863/2026). This page gives no amounts.

For foreigners, the PIO page Life in the TRNC for foreigners states that work-permit holders and their dependent partners or children can use the healthcare system under the fee scale by paying the fee set for insured employees. No official source reviewed states a health insurance requirement for short-term visitors, so check with your insurer and the ministry. Assisted reproduction (IVF) and health tourism: the legal framework

Assisted reproduction is governed by the Law Regulating Rules on Human Cell, Tissue and Organ Transplantation, Law 57/2014, adopted unanimously on 27 October 2014, and by the Regulation on Assisted Reproductive Treatment Centres and Methods, published in the Official Gazette on 21 June 2016 and amended in 2016 and 2021 (A.E. 675/2021). The regulation covers the licensing of centres and the donation, storage, transfer and disposal of reproductive cells and embryos. This page names no clinics, because no official register of licensed centres was found, and gives no success rates.

Health tourism is addressed in Law 60/2026, which requires health institutions and intermediary companies working in health tourism to be authorised by the ministry and to meet set standards, and makes operating without authorisation an offence. The detailed standards are to be set by regulation; none was found in the legislation database as of 24 October 2026.
